Learning about stamp collecting by John Weigle
Attracting new people to stamp collecting is the goal of two new events scheduled in the next few months in California. To attract youth, the 15 annual youth stamp day is scheduled in Thousand Oaks California sponsored by the Goebel Adult Community Center Stamp Club. Admission is free and primarily aimed at youths, however anyone interested in learning about stamp collecting is welcome. Activities, refreshments, games, exhibits and lots of free stamps will be included. The first 20 children to arrive receive a Disney stamp collecting kit. The second event is geared towards adults and is an educational stamp collecting seminar. It teaches free stamp collection review and evaluation and is held in Ventura California by the Ventura County Philatelic Society. Admission to the seminars cost $10 but it is a credit towards joining the society and the society dues. The society is not appraising collections instead it teaches review of the collections, pointing out expensive items and general information regarding the collection. Some of the seminars will focus on how to collect, what to collect by John Weigle a member of the society board. Other seminars teach understanding a stamp catalog. Seating is limited so make a reservation by sending a $10 check to VCPS John Weigle at PO Box 6536, Ventura, CA 93006.
Stamps are slated to drop to $.47 in early April as the current rate is $.49. When you buy a forever stamp before a rate increases it allows you to save money by buying the stamp before the rate falls, or you lose money.
